[what a jump in horrific levels... who was the guy who only had a smoke a cigarette?! he'd better have only been able to change the color of inanimate objects or something---]
[-- but this is serious, no matter how his mind might run on tangents in order to avoid addressing the goal.]
[still:]
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org Did you know this before you took the power???
[Havoc is strictly considerate- she actually reaches his rover in about four and a half minutes, but stands outside waiting until after five. It's only polite.
But then she's knocking on the door, bundled up against the cold with a medical bag in her hand, and sporting a new, much shorter haircut.
[five, seven seconds after the knock and the door slides open. the high-tech nature of the rover didn't allow for any creaking, but in the way Hinata stood partially blocked by framework, it wasn't hard to imagine.]
[on seeing her, though:]
H-hey! [an honest effort not to be terribly awkward, hands gesturing her in. his eyes jump to her hair, but avoid her guilty expression as if it'd make him catch the plague.] Um, over here should be good. ... The haircut turned out nice, by the way.
[Following, Havoc kept quiet for a moment. There's really no doubt that he's nervous. Havoc supposed anyone would be.
But she chose her targets carefully, (when she needed to, anyway- her usual method of gathering blood to pay her obeisance usually involved dead children, not live ones), and she had some confidence she could nudge him through it.]
Mmm. We're going in to the nests and setting bombs. I don't think we'll be coming back until every one is dead.
[without prompting, he sits. poised on the edge of the bed, fingers tangling together in his lap, he finally -- finally - meets her eyes. can't hold it long, his eyes snapping away in a blink, but.]
[yeah, she'd nudge him through it.]
[(blood for genocide. how about that.)]
That's-- [... so dangerous.] Please take care.
[a beat. eyes back to hers, a mix of concern and that consistent trepidation.]
W-wait, how long do your powers last off of a pint of... ah...?
[When he meets her gaze Havoc's is soft, a mix of sympathy and guilt, chewing slightly on her bottom lip. But he looks away and only experience keeps her from dropping the expression.]
It's... dependent more on... how I use them, than how long.
[She didn't like to give away details that could be used against her, though, and kept it vague, playing as if discomfort was what made it so, not reluctance for specifics.]
If I'm really careful... a day at most. I just... don't think I'll have the luxury of being really careful if there are that many Shai.
[it's vague, but it works. Hinata nods slowly along with her words, the little bits taken in and slotted into a scrapped-together rationalization for why she had to do this.]
[the thing of it is: she's proven to be far, far more useful than he could dream of. the thing of it is: he knows that. in order to exterminate an entire species, she'd have to be at full power. if that power just so happened to correlate to a thing that normal people donated every so often, he could, too.]
[(she had to drink it, that was disgusting, why was she looking guilty when she had to do that?)]
... W-well, well, ah, you've probably done this before, so...
[awkwardly, he extends an arm, obviously yet jittery but also steeled to help her however she asked. his voice low,]

So like a vampire.
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
Except only for your powers? [...] How come?
no subject
I've been called that before.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
In my world, people who use powers have to pay for them. It's different for everyone.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
I'm not one of the "lucky" ones.
no subject
The worse the cost, the greater the power...? Does it work like something like that?
no subject
Something like that. I knew a man who had to disconnect his own shoulder once.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
But I also know one who only had to smoke a cigarette.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
And I have to drink blood.

Did you know this before you took the power???
no subject
We don't chose our powers- or to even have them or not.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
We manifest them and then that's it. We have them, and the payment.

FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
That sounds like a terrifying world.
It's lucky your power's useful here. I mean, it's like telekinesis, right?
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
How much do you need?
no subject
It's more like... Stealing oxygen. But. It's not a "kind" world. No.
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
No more than you'd give donating blood at a drive.
no subject
Ok
no subject
I'm sorry to ask. But if I can't use my powers on this mission...
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
Thank you.
no subject
Yeah
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
Where do you want to meet?
no subject
It's best you're comfortable wherever it is- I'll go anywhere.
no subject
Oh but do you need anything?? Do you use your teeth? Sorry I don't know um
no subject
Oh goodness no
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
I have to drink it but I don't have to drink it like that-
FROM; havoc@cdc.org
I'd use a needle to take it then... You know. Later. It's not pretty to watch.
handwave, action or log, would you say? *^*
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
Ok
FROM: hinata.shouyou@cdc.org
If you have everything, you could come to rover 12. That's where I am.
Action? *__*
Action! (8
Right! Thank you! Come over in five minutes, maybe?
[he did manage to shove some rations down his throat, but if he were honest, the five minutes would mostly be spent pacing the inside of the rover.]

[She reached up and briefly fiddled with the ends of the longer front bangs.]
It's been a while since it's been this short, I was worried.
